NOTE FROM THE MUSIC TEACHER
Our music classes in March will be about the upcoming spring season.
The children in the younger group will sing songs about birds, like Little
Birdie in the Tree and Two Little Black Birds. Through synchronized
musical movement activities, such as rocking, jumping, and dancing we
will learn to coordinate the beat with external stimuli. The children will
explore the tambourine and learn how they can make sounds by shaking
or tapping.
The children in the older group will also learn about spring through
music. We will listen to classical music about birds and talk about how
they build nests and lay eggs in the spring. We will learn to identify the
sounds of the robin, woodpecker, bluebird, and owl. We will also learn
songs about these birds, like Little Red Robin and Blue Bird Sing Good
Morning. Through repeating phrases from these songs we will be
working on pitch matching both collectively and individually. We will
also do various beanbag activities to explore the musical concepts
“high” and “low.” The children will be introduced to the recorder and the flute and learn the differences between the two instruments.
