Thank you to all the parents for taking the time to meet for parent/teacher conferences last week. October marked the beginning of holiday season around the world and at MIA we celebrated Mid-Autumn festival from China, Diwali from India and Dia De Los Muertos from Latin America. Children had a great time learning about how different people celebrate around the world, tasting foods and listening to music from these special places. We had a great time celebrating Diwali by decorating “Diyas” with wicks. The children have taken those home. We listened to some Indian music and dressed up in traditional clothes.

The children are excited to make vegetable stew at school. They would like to bring in some vegetables to prepare the stew. We will send the list next week for your assigned items. Curriculum highlights: Children worked on fall harvest especially, pumpkins and apples, they learned about their parts, made books and art works. In November we will continue to explore “ The Human Body” : the skeleton and the inner organs. Children are welcome to bring leaves fallen on the ground. We are looking at different kinds and shapes of leaves. We will be using them in art to make collage. Also learning about the parts of the leaf. Language area: We will continue to reinforce letter sounds and introduce two/three letter reading Math area: many new objects have been introduced to keep their interest in counting, to addition and symbol to quantity
