September Newsletter 2023

Dr. Maria Montessori’s Quote: “ The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn”. This is the primary focus at MIA in how the curriculum is designed. Important Dates: Closed: Monday September 4 in the observance of Labor Day Holiday! Happy Birthday to Ryan on turning three, Miraya and Sabria on turning four and Ishaan and Laila on turning five years old this month. Warm Welcome to Nivan (Sky) and Narin( Sun) and their parents Nuntiya and Bordin. Reminder about birthday Celebrations in our Montessori School. MONTESSORI BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION – A LOVELY CELEBRATION OF LIFE CEREMONY Montessori birthday celebration gives a concrete way for young children to understand the months of the year and the earth’s revolution around the sun each year. It also is a way for children to feel special and to connect with their place in the world. To celebrate in class, we request parents to bring pictures of their child from each of his years and share important milestones at circle. A healthy snack for the group maybe be brought in to share. Some ideas for snack are small muffins (no cupcakes please), fresh fruit or crackers. Snack should be low in sugar.

Message from the Director: Some common topics related to young children’s language, self-control, communication will be covered monthly. This month’s topic is smooth transition at drop off. Children need consistency and simple routines. If your child is having difficulty saying good-bye, coming to school or otherwise. Please choose one simple routine to do and clearly tell your child what you will do and say good-bye and return for pick-up at a time after nap or outside time. Tell them they are safe, and you know she will play and have fun. When the adult does this, it reinforces the child’s trust in the teachers/staff and the environment. The teachers are ready to help take over and assist in the transition. We will communicate with you via message/brightwheel about how your child is doing. Another important aspect is consistency of drop-off time. It helps when children know what to expect during the day. At school all children/teachers look forward to seeing all their friends especially at circle, if anyone is missing, they ask for them. To provide the consistency, make it a daily routine. Wake up, get ready for school, eat breakfast, and arrive at school. Children are welcome to bring a small item to share corresponding to the initial letter sound for that month. For more specific ideas, please email or message to schedule a meeting. We thank you for entrusting your beautiful children in our care. We appreciate the new families establishing the routine and making the drop off and pick up easy for their children. September Curriculum Highlights: The children had fun learning the names of different parts and the basic difference between the two animal kingdoms: The Amphibians and The Fish. They are having fun exploring layers of the ocean and creating their own sea/ocean creatures to put in the ocean and decorate the classroom. This month Children will be introduced to the Dinosaurs, their names and some distinct features, their habitats and world map where all they existed, in all the continents. Additionally we will introduce the color unit. In this unit we will explore the three primary colors: Red, Blue, and Yellow and Secondary and tertiary colors. They will use the Montessori color box 1, 2 and 3 to learn vocabulary, additionally they will learn how to mix colors in different ratios to make new colors. We will explore making different mediums to use colors. Children will experience noticing colors all around us, in nature and man-made. Manipulatives: Children will enjoy working with many puzzles, connecting, and linking works, building with blocks, and stacking. Language: The letter sound of “h and j”.

For the parents who did not respond, by default is opt out. When Ms Carmen will send me details/dates of her 8 week session, I will share them. We will continue to incorporate music in our everyday morning circle and as part of our Montessori curriculum. where children love music so much! We look forward to continuing to provide a unique music education program for your children to help them realize their musical potential in a fun and exciting learning environment throughout the year. In September the younger students will create sounds, like clapping and tapping. We will listen to sound tubes to explore different sounds made by a variety of objects. The children will also be introduced to some of the basic percussion instruments. They will learn how to create sounds with the rhythm sticks.
